Enrolled Nurse as a member of the healthcare team, collaborates with the Registered Nurse, and displays competency in providing person-centered care. The Enrolled Nurse is usually required to work under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse in core practice.
In Australia, you can become an enrolled nurse by studying for a Diploma of Nursing or an Advanced Diploma of Nursing. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia accredit this course.
A Diploma in Nursing is an entry-level course for the nursing profession and a prevalent choice among the students, particularly international students. Upon completing your studies, you will be eligible to register as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
The course will cover, Anatomy and physiology, communication skills, medical terminology, infection control, legal and ethical concerns in nursing, nursing patients with complicated requirements, drug administration, and nursing patients with mental health needs.
Institutions receive many applications for this course, and only a few spots are offered in a term. Therefore, a place is not guaranteed when you apply, and you may have to wait for one or two terms to get accepted into this course.

IELTS (Academic module). IELTS result is accepted from one test sitting or a maximum of two test sittings in a six-month period only if: you achieve a minimum overall score of 7 in each sitting and you achieve a minimum score of 7 in each component across the two sittings, and no score in any component of the test is below 6.5.
OET. OET result is accepted from one test sitting or a maximum of two test sittings in a six-month period only if: you are tested in all four components in each sitting, and you achieve a minimum score of B in each component across the two sittings, and no score in any component of the test is below C.
PTE Academic. PTE result is accepted from one test sitting or a maximum of two test sittings in a six-month period only if: a minimum overall score of 65 is achieved in each sitting, and you achieve a minimum score of 65 in each of the communicative skills across the two sittings, and no score in any of the communicative skills is below 58.
TOEFL iBT. TOEFL iBT result is accepted from one test sitting, or a maximum of two test sittings in a six month period only if: a minimum total score of 94 is achieved in each sitting, and the applicant achieve a minimum score of 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing and 23 for speaking across the two sittings, and no score in any of the sections is below: 20 for listening, 19 for reading, 24 for writing, and 20 for speaking.
Four hundred hours of work placement is required in this course, organized by the institution. You will complete 11 weeks of full-time placement in 2-3 full-week blocks with morning or afternoon shifts. Placement may occur during semester break. Current police checked and approved Working with Children Check will be required. The uniform code will be applied during the work placement.
Work placement and employment possibilities are also available through affiliations with hospitals, healthcare facilities, and other healthcare institutions.

Enrolled nurses who have some experience in the field and would like to enhance their knowledge and skills relating to a particular area of nursing practice can explore the opportunities offered by undertaking the Advanced Diploma of Nursing.
This course teaches advanced skills and knowledge regarding client care, client assessment, and management, and successful graduates can upskill their roles to leadership or managerial positions. It includes elective units relevant to an extensive range of health care settings, such as Aged Care and Mental Health, within a contemporary health environment in Australia.
This qualification reflects the role of enrolled nurses with advanced skills who work in a specialized area of nursing practice. At this level, enrolled nurses integrate and adapt specialized, technical, and theoretical knowledge to address a diverse range of clinical situations and challenges in their area of specialization. They contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practice by participation in broader organizational quality processes and by using research. Enrolled nurses retain responsibility for their own actions while remaining accountable to the Registered Nurse / Midwife for all delegated functions.
Students must be registered with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board and hold a diploma in nursing or an equivalent qualification.
You must currently be employed as an enrolled nurse.
