Introduction

The Global Talent Visa Program, administered by the Australian Department of Home Affairs under the Distinguished Talent visa,(also known as the Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program), is a streamlined visa pathway for highly skilled professionals to work and live permanently in Australia.  

The GTI Program seeks to attract the brightest and best global talent to work in future focused sectors to help grow Australia’s innovation and tech economies.  

The GTI program requires applicants to be nominated by a nominator, which includes an Australian organisation with a national reputation in the same field as the nominee.  

Engineers Australia is the peak body of engineering and exists to advance the science and practice of engineering for the benefit of the community. Engineers Australia’s is recognised globally as a leading engineering organisation through its international mobility agreements which enable Engineers Australia members to live and work around the world in more than 120 countries.  

Engineers Australia is proud to be the organisation nominating highly skilled engineering professionals under GTI program. 

Priority Target Sectors

A list of priority sectors has been identified by the Department of Home Affairs. Engineers Australia may consider nominating candidates who have proved to be highly skilled engineering professionals inthe following target sectors:

Resources: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector include mining, petroleum, chemical, and plant engineers. 

Agri-food and AgTech: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector include agricultural, and materials engineers. 

Energy: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector include electrical, and geotechnical engineers. 

Health industries: an example of an engineering occupation under this target sector includes biomedical engineer and its specialisations. 

Defence, advanced manufacturing and space: examples of engineering occupation under this target sector includes aeronautical engineer and its specialisations, naval architect, electronics, transport, production,and mechanical engineers. 

Circular economy: an examples of an engineering occupation under this target sector is industrial engineer. 

DigiTech: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector include, telecommunications, and telecommunications network engineers. 

Infrastructure and tourism: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector includes civil, and structural engineers.

Financial Services and FinTech: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector include electronics, and telecommunications network engineers.

Education: examples of engineering occupations under this target sector include electronics, biomedical, telecommunications network, and agricultural engineers.
