UON Bachelor of Social Work offers diverse areas of practice that can lead to different career opportunities. Social workers have an essential role in supporting both individuals and communities.

Bachelor of Social Work UON

The students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through two 70-day placements, totaling 1,000 hours, during the third and fourth years of the program. Under the guidance of qualified social workers, they will engage in supervised practical work, applying their knowledge in real-world settings.

Bachelor of Social Work UON

Upon finishing the program UON Social Work, students will have learned the basic ideas and concepts in one or more subjects. They will also understand how to conduct project work or research with some independence.
To participate in the placements, students must fulfill all the necessary Social Work UON Placement Requirements. These placements are conducted within numerous services or facilities in New South Wales, providing students with practical, firsthand experience.

Bachelor of Social Work UON Entry Requirements

  • PTE Academic: At least 65 overall and 65 in each of the four skills.
  • TOEFL iBT: A minimum overall score of 94, comprising 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 27 for writing, and 23 for speaking.
  • IELTS (academic module): with a minimum overall score of 7 and a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components.
  • OET: with a minimum score of Bs in each of the four components.

Introduction to Social Work 1 SWRK1010

In this course, we will learn about fairness and how it is linked to social work. We will look at how some people have more money, different races are treated, and the differences between genders. We will also think critically about our own lives and how they relate to the values of social work.

Introduction to Social Work 2 SWRK1020

In this course, we will study how being fair is important in social work. We will look at how some people are treated differently based on their age and sexuality. We will also learn to think carefully about our own lives and how they connect to the values of social work.

Social Work Theory and Practice A SWRK2001

In this course, we will learn how to put social work theories into practice. We will focus on helping individuals and communities, and we will learn how to research and think critically. We will also learn about how people work together in groups.

People Skills for Professional Practice SWRK2003

This course helps you improve your communication and teamwork skills for work. You will learn how to analyze your work with the help of a supervisor. We will have classes in the classroom and do some learning online.

Violence, Abuse and Trauma: Theory and Practice SWRK2005

This course is about understanding diverse types of violence and abuse. We will learn about why they happen and how they affect people. We will look at how violence is linked to society, psychology, and politics, especially in terms of gender and other crucial factors. We will also study real-life examples of violence and discuss how they relate to what we learn in theory, policy, and practice.

In this class, we will learn the main ways social workers help people: working one-on-one, in groups, and with whole communities. We will learn how to figure out what is going on and make good decisions to help. We will also talk about how to understand ourselves, the world, and how to make things fairer for everyone.

Social Policy and Planning in Regional Contexts HUSE3006

In this class, we will study how making plans for communities is connected to the bigger rules society makes. We will learn how to make plans that help communities work better and stay healthy. We will also look at how some places might need more help and how we can make sure everyone has what they need.

Law for Social Work and the Social Sciences LEGL3009

This class will help you understand how the law works and how it can affect the work you do. We will look at laws about families, children, and people with disabilities and mental health issues. You will learn how to work better with the legal system to help the people with whom you will work.

Social Work Theory and Practice C SWRK3002

This class is about learning how to work with diverse groups of people. We will study how to create programs for groups and how to work in teams in different organizations. You will also learn how organizations work and how to make changes in them.

Social Work Ethics SWRK3007

In this online class, we will talk about making good decisions when collaborating with individuals, groups, and communities. We will also learn about different theories and tools to help with decision making. This course goes along with SWRK3300: Field Practicum.

Field Practicum 1 SWRK3300

During the practicum, we will make sure you meet your learning goals. You will have support before and during the placement with workshops and a staff liaison person to help you.
