In your first year of Bachelor of Nursing degree UOW, you will learn the basics through direct experience and classroom learning. Then, in the second year, you get to choose what you want to focus on by picking specific topics and subjects. As you go through this degree, you will get real-life experience and build important professional relationships.
In this program, you get chances to use what you learn in class in practical, simulated learning settings before you go to real workplaces. Over the course, you will spend 21 weeks in places like hospitals, aged care centers, and community facilities. There, you will take care of people, applying what you have practiced in your lessons.

If you complete the HLT54121 or HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing UOW, you can apply to UOW for the Bachelor of Nursing program. But getting in depends on UOW's rules, and there might not be enough spots for everyone in the second year. If you do get in, you will get 48 credit points. To start the UOW Nursing, you also need to become a registered Enrolled Nurse and finish a UOW orientation program.

In Nursing 1, we learn how registered nurses care for people's health throughout their lives. We start by practicing basic clinical skills in a safe environment. These skills will help us later when we work in healthcare.
In Bioscience 1, we will explore key ideas and words about how the human body works normally and stays balanced. We will look at different body systems and see how they help us live, stay healthy, and feel well throughout our lives.
This subject instructs students about primary healthcare, promoting health, and educating people about their health. We will also talk about distinct roles in healthcare, like nurses, and consider cultural safety and public health efforts to help poor communities and diverse groups of people.
In Fundamentals of Nursing 2, we learn how registered nurses take care of people's health throughout their lives. This includes promoting, maintaining, and supporting their well-being.
"This subject is all about understanding and helping older people in Australia. We'll focus on aging, the health problems older adults face, and how nurses can care for them."
Bioscience 2 builds on what you learned in Bioscience 1. We will look at different body systems and how they affect our daily activities, health, and well-being throughout life. We will also learn about genetics and how our environment can impact our health, well-being, and behavior.
In Professional Experience Placement (PEP) 1, we focus on how registered nurses assess and care for people in different healthcare settings, like hospitals and aged-care facilities. This subject helps students use what they have learned in their other subjects and apply it to real-life situations.
This subject will give students the knowledge and skills they need to provide safe nursing care to people of all ages who have urgent medical needs. Acute care involves treating individuals with serious injuries or illnesses that need quick attention because they can be life-threatening or have a significant impact on their health, well-being, or mental state.
In this subject, students will build upon the skills they learned in their first year of study. They will delve into how research processes and knowledge contribute to nursing practice. Students will develop the ability to understand and apply evidence in their practice. They will also hone their critical analysis skills to help them incorporate high-quality research findings into their nursing practice.
This subject introduces students to the changes that happen in the body due to common non-communicable diseases and mental health conditions, as well as the treatments used to manage them. It covers essential concepts like cell injury, adaptation, and cell death, with a particular focus on the acute inflammatory response.
In PEP2, students will get the chance to use and understand clinical skills in diverse ways, including technical, non-technical, and thinking skills as part of the program. They will also be able to examine nursing care that focuses on the individual during their time in professional placements.
In this subject, we will study how to deal with long-term health issues, disabilities, recovery from injuries, and end-of-life care. We will highlight the importance of providing caring and safe nursing support to individuals facing chronic illnesses, disabilities, or those needing rehabilitation or end-of-life assistance.
In this subject, we will explore how diverse ways of providing care can impact individuals who have firsthand experience with mental illness, as well as their families and caregivers. Students will learn about different theories that help us understand mental health, mental illness, and mental disorders.
In SNUG207, students will be asked to think about how white privilege affects the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today. This will involve looking into the history of Australia's invasion and colonization, as well as examining current health policies that are relevant to this issue.
In PEP3, students will get a chance to use and understand clinical skills at various levels, including technical, non-technical, and cognitive skills taught in the program. They will also assess and create nursing care that centers around the individual during their professional experience placement.
In this subject, we will build on what you have learned in the past two years. We will help you develop the skills to recognize and make the right choices when people of all ages start to have health problems, which can involve changes in how they feel and behave.
In this subject, we will delve into the journey from being a student to becoming a professional nurse. You will have the chance to assess how ready you are for the real-world practice of registered nursing. We will also look at the things that can affect this transition and help you develop ways to take care of yourself as you make this move into your nursing career.
In this subject, we will build on what you learned in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for Nurses 1. We will look at how common diseases in the muscles and bones, stomach and intestines, kidneys, and nerves happen in the body and how we use medicines to treat them.

They will also review nursing care that focuses on the person during their practical training and think about changes in healthcare.
Leadership plays a crucial role in healthcare, and it is not limited to specific job titles. This subject looks at why leadership is essential for Registered Nurses when it comes to delivering caring and compassionate care. Students will explore how a leader who puts the person at the center of healthcare can make a significant difference.
