Student Visa 500 is a temporary visa to study an eligible program of study or research in Australia. The program of study can be a ELICOS program, vocational education and training, higher education or a research program.
For the duration of their studies in Australia, the student visa 500 working hours are up to 48 hours in a fortnight (two consecutive weeks hours worked must not exceed 48 hours) once their course starts, and full time during their term holidays. The spouse or partner of primary visa holder can work full time if primary visa holder is studying a Master's or higher program, and part time other wise. If you have spouse/partner and kids, they can also be included in your application for student visa Australia. Your spouse/partner and kids can also apply for subclass 500 dependent visa if you have already been granted student visa. If student is under 18 years of age the a parent or a guardian of the student can accompany them to Australia on 'Student Guardian Subclass 590 Visa'.
If your course duration has been extended or you are going to study more than initially planned or your thesis has been delayed or you took time off from study due to compelling and compassionate circumstances, there is no automatic extension in your student visa duration. If your visa expiry is approaching and you have not yet finished studies, then you will need to apply for student visa 500 extension. Base Application Charge: A$1600; Additional applicant charge for any other applicant who is at least 18: A$1190; Additional applicant charge for any other applicant who is less than 18: A$390, Subsequent Temporary Application Charge: A$700. If family unit members of student visa holder lodges dependent visa subclass 500 then base application charge will be applicable. You must be enrolled in a full time course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) before you can lodge an application for student visa Australia.
There is no age limit for studying or applying for a student visa for Australia.
You will need Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) for each course. The last course you take as part of the course package is your main course of study that Department of Home Affairs will use to work out what financial and English language skills evidence you will need.

If this condition is applied to the student dependent visa 500, then the dependent's 500 visa working hours must not exceed more than 48 hours while the holder is in Australia, unless temporary relaxation of working hours exemption applies.

You must not undertake critical technology related study without the approval of the Minister for Department of Home Affairs. Critical technology related areas of study includes: a postgraduate research course that relates to critical technology – leading to either a Masters degree (research) or doctoral degree; a thesis or research topic that relates to critical technology (in a course at Masters degree (research) or doctoral degree level); a bridging course that is a prerequisite to a postgraduate research course that relates to critical technology.
The student must maintain an adequate overseas student health cover for themselves and their dependents, while they are on student visa in Australia .
The holder must continue to satisfy the primary or secondary criteria due to which the visa 500 Australia was granted.
As holder of student temporary visa, the student must maintain adequate arrangements for the education of their school aged dependent who is in Australia for more than 3 months.
The student must notify their residential address or any change in residential address to their education provider within 7 days of arriving in Australia or within 7 days of change thereafter, while being on student visa in Australia.
If you are under 18, then your parent or guardian can accompany you to Australia to take care of you while you study. However they will have to apply for a 'Guardian Subclass 500 Visa'.
