Student Visa 500 is a temporary visa to study an eligible program of study or research in Australia. The program of study can be a ELICOS program, vocational education and training, higher education or a research program.

For the duration of their studies in Australia, the student visa 500 working hours are upto 40 hours in a fortnight (two consecutive weeks hours worked must not exceed 40 hours) once their course starts, and full time during their term holidays. The spouse or partner of primary visa holder can work full time if primary visa holder is studying a Master's or higher program, and part time other wise.

You can choose to fufill the requirement of English for Student Visa 500 purposes in one of the following ways:

1. An applicant who is a citizen of, and who holds a valid passport issued by: United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or Republic of Ireland.

2. An applicant who is enrolled in a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, a registered ELICOS course, a registered school course or a registered post-graduate research course.

3. An applicant who is a Foreign Affairs student, a Defence Student or a Secondary exchange student.

4. An applicant, who, in the 2 years before applying for a Subclass 500 (Student) visa, has successfully completed the requirements for a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education, in a course that was conducted in Australia and in English; or a substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate IV level or higher that was conducted in Australia and in English, while the applicant was holding a student visa.

5 An applicant who has successfully completed a minimum of 5 years of study in English undertaken in one or more of the following countries: United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or Republic of Ireland, South African and Australia.

6. IELTS (Overall band of 5.5, 5.0 if packaged with 10 Weeks of ELICOS, 4.5 if packaged with 20 weeks of ELICOS), TOEFL iBT (Overall band of 46, 35 if packaged with 10 Weeks of ELICOS, 32 if packaged with 20 weeks of ELICOS), CAE (Overall band of 162, 154 if packaged with 10 Weeks of ELICOS, 147 if packaged with 20 weeks of ELICOS), PTE (Overall band of 42, 36 if packaged with 10 Weeks of ELICOS, 30 if packaged with 20 weeks of ELICOS), OET (a score of at least B for each test component of the OET).

7. If a program of study in higher education sector requires 6.0 in IELTS or 6.5 in IELTS or 7.0 in IELTS, then that would be the requirement for student visa purposes.

Condition 8104 - Student Visa Work Restriction of 40 hours a fortnight

If this condition is applied to the student dependent visa 500, then the dependent's 500 visa working hours must not exceed more than 40 hours while the holder is in Australia.

Condition 8105 - Student Visa Work Restrictions

If this condition is applied as part of student visa restrictions on student visa Australia, then the student must not start work in Australia before the commencement of their course while being on student visa 500. 8501 Visa Condition Subclass 500 - Maintain adequate health insurance

The student must maintain an adequate overseas student health cover for themselves and their dependents, while they are on student visa in Australia .

Condition 8516 - Continue to satisfy the criteria for the grant of the visa

The holder must continue to satisfy the primary or secondary criteria due to which the visa 500 Australia was granted.

8517 Condition - Maintain adequate arrangements for the education of your school-age dependants

As holder of student temporary visa, the student must maintain adequate arrangements for the education of their school aged dependent who is in Australia for more than 3 months.

8533 Condition - Inform provider of address

The student must notify their residential address or any change in residential address to their education provider within 7 days of arriving in Australia or within 7 days of change thereafter, while being on student visa in Australia.

1. Identity documents such as passport, birth certificate, proof of name change such as marriage or divorce certificate.
