If you hold a Student visa, and you traveled to Australia within the specified period, you will be eligible for a refund.
Before you commence your claim, you will need to make sure you have your Passport and Transaction Reference Number of the application for which you are claiming the refund. The Department of Home Affairs will process your claim as quickly as possible, but the time taken will vary depending on visa holder's individual circumstances. This is due to Department making sure that refund is made to the correct person.
If you want your claim to be processed faster, then you should nominate an Australian Bank or a Credit card for the refund amount to be paid to, rather than an International Money Transfer.
You do not need to make multiple applications for claiming the refund. The Department of Home Affairs will contact you if they need any further information from you, or when they make a refund.
No, student visa holders can not get tax refund apart from the one they become eligible when they lodge their annual tax assessment.
